Kate Spade Timeless Classics

I've had over a hundred readers of my blog write to me inquiring how I became listed on the kate spade website as one of the "things we love". I'm not really sure, but my guess would be that some of the designers and me are of similar age and wear the same brands, have similar memories of brands and simply like the same things. That would be my guess. Now, go order a new fall bag! I love this perry street noel norma tote and can't take these jian flats off my feet. Bring Back Marshall Field's

Over at www.brandlandusa.com, old Virginia writer J. Garland Pollard IV is rallying folks in support of bringing back the Marshall Field's department store name (now Macy's). Garland is obsessed with helping Chicagoans bring back the Marshall Field's department store name, ever since he researched a story on Marshall Field's old hunting club, The Clubhouse Resort in Fieldale, Virginia. He was editing Virginia Living, and found out that Marshall Field built his own town to make fieldcrest towels. Anything Field is good. The Field Museum. The exclusive Field Club in Sarasota, Florida. Target, once the Marshall Field discount store. Fieldcrest towels. World Book, from Fieldcrest Enterprises. And the beautiful living Field, Marina Rust Connor! www.brandlandusa.com/2008/09/06/marshall-fields-boosters-rally-on-tuesday

I'm Thinking Mink
I've always had an obsession with mink coats. Let me tell you, I got it honest. When I was a little girl, my mother had a closet full of them, but remember, I'm a child of the 70's. My mother would drop me off at school in the morning wearing mink coats, Levi's and cool, funky boots -- anything from her bespoke riding boots, cowboy boots, to her above-the-knee snakeskin zipper boots. Oh, and those snakeskin zipper boots, she and Mick Jagger were the only two people who owned them; they were bought at Suzy Cream Cheese in Las Vegas in the early 70's. This mink coat is for sale on eBay -- along with a lot of other good ones. I think it's smokin'.

Saturday Market Style

I'm heading to the farm stand to buy homegrown, local fruits and veggies. I feel like cooking a southern dinner tonight. You know, fried pork chops, squash with onion, red-skinned and garlic mashed potatoes, sliced tomato, biscuits and a pitcher of sweet tea. I'm going to bake something, too, maybe a peach and blueberry crisp. And yes, I'm wearing my vintage OP shorts, long sleeve lacoste, Buffalo sandals and carrying my terry cloth Pucci bag. So, what's turquoise, white and chic all over? I am or at least I think so.

Ron Galella to Celebrate Warhol
Pioneering Paparazzo, Ron Galella and his wife, Betty, are throwing a bash in honor of Andy Warhol's 80th Birthday. Ron Galella, best known for his iconic photography of the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, will celebrate the 80th birthday of Andy Warhol with a party at his villa style, New Jersey pad on August 9th -- 3 days after what would have been Andy Warhol's 80th birthday (August 6, 1928). Ron Galella was referred to as Warhol's "favorite photographer" - direct quote from Andy as referenced in Warhol's book(s), Exposures and The Andy Warhol Diaries. Warhol by Galella: That's Great! is Galella's new book, following the sucess of his other recently published books, The Photographs of Ron Galella (2002), Intimate Diary: Ron Gallella (2004) and Disco Years (2005). His next books are: No Pictures Please and Boxing With The Stars. A new documentary about the life of Galella is currently in production and being directed by Oscar winner Leon Gast ("They Might be Kings"). The new film is produced by Adam Schlesinger, producer of God Grew Tires of Us: The Lost Boys of Sudan, which won Best Documentary and Best Audience Awards at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006. In addition, an essay by Galella about Edie Beale and Grey Gardens appears in a new book titled memoraBEALEia by Walter Newkirk. What a swell party it's going to be.

Walter Newkirk Plans Book Signing in Sag Harbor
On Saturday, June 14, The Gallery in Sag Harbor will host Walter Newkirk, the author of memoraBealia and the CD Little Edie Live! For any of you who might like to attend (or who have friends in the area). Grey Gardens will be shown at The Bay Street Cinema @ 11am on June 14th and then a free champagne brunch follows at the Gallery in Sag Harbor -Lois Wright will exhibit several of her Grey Gardens paintings. She will also sign copies of her book.

On April 22, 1976 college journalist Walter Newkirk traveled to Grey Gardens, the Beale estate on Long Island, to interview Edie Beale about the movie documentary Grey Gardens, for his college newspaper, The Rutgers Daily Targum.
In the 1970s, Edie Beale and her mother Edith Bouvier Beale -- the respective cousin and aunt of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis — former society ladies — were living in a cat-infested, filthy, crumbling estate called Grey Gardens in East Hampton on Long Island. The film Grey Gardens about their reclusive lives together in that house inspired a Tony Award winning Broadway musical during the 2006-2007 season by Doug Wright, Michael Korie and Scott Frankel, also called Grey Gardens, which fictionalized the back story and decline of the women.
The interview for the Rutgers newspaper was conducted shortly after the release of the film. Newkirk and Beale kept in touch for several years, by phone and by mail. After the estate was sold and her mother died, Beale moved to New York for three years (1980-1983) and the author escorted her to luncheons, parties and special events. "Little Edie" later moved to Florida, and died in January 2002. www.greygardensbook.com And you ought to check out www.greygardenscollections.com.

memoraBEALEia : A Private Scrapbook about Edie Beale of Grey Gardens, a new book by Walter Newkirk, celebrates and pays tribute to Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale. Miss Beale was the first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and is best known for her participation in the famous documentary Grey Gardens (1976). The book was specifically produced for fans of Edie Beale and the film Grey Gardens.
